Install the Flare Redirection Pixel on Shopify

A step-by-step walkthrough to add the Flare pixel to your Shopify store so Instagram and TikTok traffic lands in a real browser—with UTM parameters and click IDs intact.

The Flare redirection pixel sits in your Shopify theme and quietly hands in-app browser visitors (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) off to Safari or Chrome. Checkout cookies survive. UTM parameters survive. Pixel click IDs survive.

This takes about five minutes.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • Shopify admin access with permission to edit the online store theme.
  • Your Flare account connected to this store (Shopify OAuth, from the Flare dashboard).
  • One pixel key, copied from Dashboard → Install → Shopify.

Step 1 — Install the Flare Shopify app

From the Flare dashboard, click Connect Shopify store and authorize the app. This creates the Merchant record on our side and exchanges the Shopify OAuth token so we can scope analytics to just your store.

Once connected, you'll land on the install screen with your pixel key visible.

Step 2 — Add the pixel to your theme

In Shopify admin:

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. On your live theme, click ... → Edit code.
  3. Open layout/theme.liquid.
  4. Paste the Flare snippet just before the closing </head> tag:
<script
  src="https://cdn.flareb2b.com/pixel.js"
  data-flare-key="YOUR_PIXEL_KEY"
  async
></script>

Replace YOUR_PIXEL_KEY with the key from Step 1. Save.

The script is 4.1kb, async, and edge-cached. It runs after your page is interactive—no render-blocking, no CLS.

Step 3 — Verify it fires

Open your store in Instagram's in-app browser (post a link to a story-highlight or DM it to yourself, then tap it). You should see the Flare continue-in-browser prompt within a second of the page becoming interactive.

If the prompt doesn't appear:

  • Confirm the script tag is in <head>, not <body>.
  • Confirm the data-flare-key matches the one in your dashboard.
  • Hard-refresh and check your browser console for [flare] log lines.

Step 4 — Watch the first redirects

Head back to the Flare dashboard. Within a few minutes, the Redirect events feed should start populating, with geo and source breakdowns. These feed the geostats and merchantRedirectEvents tables tied to your Merchant record.

Common mistakes

  • Pasting in body instead of head. The script needs to be available early enough to detect the in-app WebView UA.
  • Using a draft theme. Only your live theme ships to visitors—make sure you edited the one Shopify labels Live.
  • Blocking it with a cookie-consent script. If your consent script short-circuits all other scripts until opt-in, Flare won't load. Add Flare to your "strictly necessary" allowlist.

That's it

You're routing in-app traffic to real browsers. UTMs and click IDs are preserved end-to-end, so your Meta pixel attribution lines up with Shopify's checkout events for the same session.

Next: once you've got a few days of data, compare in-app vs. redirected checkout rates in the Flare dashboard. That's the number worth sending to your CFO.
